The Ciutadella: the oldest culture of Roses.
In Roses we can appreciate the Citadel. A walled enclosure that in ancient times surrounded the city to protect it from attacks. It was founded by a Greek colony called Rhode.
It is an enclosure that contains an archaeological site of very broad chronology, with remains of the ancient period (Hellenistic quarter) and Visigothic. From the medieval part you can appreciate the monastery and the urban nucleus that develops around it with the different walls, until the last phase of the modern period, of which the remains of different military buildings are preserved.
Currently, you can visit this site freely or accompanied by guides who can explain every detail of each area of the site and the museum.
The Ciutadella Museum
Inside the enclosure we have the Citadel Museum, which is divided into different areas: enclosure, museum room, exhibition hall and central lobby where there are spaces for cafeteria services, souvenir store, reception and customer service.
In this part of the Citadel are preserved objects of the Greeks that were found in the ruins of the wall.
